  • What bikes do you have available?
We’ve got 3 e-cargo bikes available to rent. Here are 2 of them. The most up to date list is on the main page. Urban Arrow Experience the magic of NYC by biking and sightseeing with your family on an electric bakfiets. This Urban Arrow cargo bike isn't just for show—it hauls up to 400 lbs, seats up to 3 kids with safety harnesses, and even lets an adult enjoy the ride while capturing Instagram-worthy moments. It has a raincover for all-weather (and cold) riding, hand mitts (if it’s cold out), pannier, and 2 benches in the bucket. Its Bosch CX motor offers pedal-assist power, letting you cruise at 20mph and conquer hills effortlessly with a 500wh battery that boasts a 15-30 mile range (depending on weight and power settings). Pick the UA if: You are too short for the Madsen (5’0 - 5’3”) If you only have 1-2 kids. It can handle 1-2 kids really well. If you have 3 kids, but the kids are very small (think, 1.5 year old, 3 year old and a 5 year old, for example). But it cannot handle, say, a 9 year old, 10 year old and an 11 year old) Madsen This is the Madsen “fully loaded” e-cargo bike. With the e-assist feature, you can add power when you need it and cruise up hills with ease while carrying your kids and gear. This bike comes with a soft top (for when it rains), front rack + wooden crate, lights, neat little coffee cup holder (!!) and shiny brass bicycle bell. It has the power. Equipped with a 750W Bafang Mid Drive Motor, pedal assist system with 9 levels. One of the best parts is it also has a *throttle* so if you don't feel like pedaling or want a little pick-me-up from a red light on a hill, you just press a button and it goes. The 40 gallon plastic bucket can hold up to 4 kids (also has seatbelts) and up to 271kg (which is way way more than you will need). This is perfect for touring around NYC with your kids or for carrying stuff for a birthday party or picnic in the park. Pick the Madsen if you: Are a bit taller (5’3” or taller) Have 2-3 kids It can carry more weight better due to its throttle, in a way that the UA cannot

  • Are there any requirements to rent one of your bikes?
    1. Biking in NYC is fun and a phenomenal way to explore, especially with kids. But for these rentals, we expect our renters to be pretty experienced and confident biking in NYC or a similarly car-centric city. This should not be your first time biking in a city. 2. We prefer that you have prior experience riding a cargo bike (with kids, if you have them). You should be pretty comfortable biking either a front loader or a long tail. It's not hard to get the hang of, but we prefer this isn't your first time riding one of these style bikes. Most of our renters already use one of these bikes in their home city and are looking to access the experience in NYC.
  • What are the prices?
All bikes Daily Rate: $125/day Weekly Rate: $650/week (26% discount) There is a $500 deposit in case of damages or theft. This will be returned when the bike is returned. Note: If you need one for more than a week, we’ll prorate based on the weekly rate. Extra battery: $25/day (available for Urban Arrow and Bunch)
  • What accessories come with the bikes?
Both bikes come with: Cafe lock (built into the bike frame, on the front or back wheel) Hiplok chain lock - heavy duty, grinder proof U-lock to be used to lock up. A motorcycle cover for street parking overnight Kid and adult helmets (optional) 1 Battery & charger Raincover - so children and cargo are protected from the elements (This is optional for the Urban Arrow)
  • What if I get a flat tire or something breaks?
Normal wear and tear is part of the process and NYC has pretty terrible quality roads that can eat up tires. If something happens, you'd call us right away and we'll direct you to either the nearest bike shop or one of our preferred bike repair stores, and we'll cover the cost and try to get you back on the road ASAP. If the damage is more complicated, we may instruct you to lock it where it is and refund you the remainder of the rental days.
  • During the day, where do I lock it?
The bike will come with both a cafe lock along with a heavy duty Hiplok, as well as a motorcycle cover. When using the bike through the day, you’ll lock it with both the cafe lock and the Hiplok, to any immovable object (preferably a bike rack or corral or street sign). We’ve been biking in NYC for over 4 years with our own bikes and have never had serious incidents happen - very rarely someone might grab the motorcycle cover, or took a bluetooth speaker, but that’s it. If you’re biking during the day and stopping in places that have a lot of foot traffic, it is extremely unlikely anyone will take non-valuable stuff from the bike (such as a carseat or helmets or some clothing), especially if it has the raincover on & zipped. That said, be aware of your surroundings and use common sense. It’s also good to park in a place that you can see from where you’re at (such as a restaurant). Some fun tips: The American Museum of Natural History has a parking garage and you can bring the bike right in there for free. Across from Yankee Stadium is also a car garage that has a lot of bike parking as well. Try to use bike racks whenever you see them (usually they’re within a half block of wherever you are). We’ve heard of a lot more bike thefts in Brooklyn than Manhattan (including Urban Arrows and Riese and Mullers) so again, use common sense.
  • Overnight, where do I park the bike?
Parking the bike securely overnight is very important, since it is NYC and theft is common. As a general rule, you’ll want to remove the battery and take that inside (also to charge, if you need). Ideally you’ll find a bike rack, bike corral, sign or some other immovable object near your apartment. Preferably it’ll be a spot that you can see from your apartment. If you have access to a gated area or backyard, even better. Before you rent, we'll ask you for the address of where you'll be staying and what your bike parking situation looks like (eg it will be locked inside a gate or you have access to a parking garage). Please look at your location on streetview to see if there are bike corrals or racks nearby. Refer to the NYC bike rack map for the most up to date corrals and racks.
  • Where can I rent a regular bike?
It has been many years since we’ve rented a bike in NYC so we’re not up to date on shops. However, probably the easiest and best (and likely the cheapest) option is to simply use Citi Bike, our excellent bikeshare service. It is owned by Lyft so you can simply use the Lyft app to scan a QR code and take out a bike. You can download the Citi Bike app as well. Google maps even has docks integrated into directions, making it pretty easy to find your way. You can pay as you go - an average trip might be a few dollars. A day pass is a good option for $19/day - then you can take unlimited rides (non electric) for up to 30 mins at a time. If you plan on staying in NYC for more than 11 days, it’ll probably even pay to get the annual membership for $220, which lets you take bikes for up to 45 min without re-docking.
